This application was created as a submission for a competition celebrating the MXGP 2022 event in Samota, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara. I successfully secured 1st place in the general category

Behind the Code:

My Very First IT Competition

Spoiler Alert: I won

๐Ÿ What is the MXGP IT Competition?

MXGP is a prestigious international motocross championship, featuring the world's best riders and teams. In 2023, one of the races was held in Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggaraโ€”my hometown To add extra excitement, the local government organized an IT competition alongside the main event.

Participants had to demonstrate exceptional skill, speed, and strategy to succeed in this high-stakes environment.

๐Ÿ’ก What Did I Build?

Main Idea

I built a mobile application named MXGO (MXGP + GO), designed to support the MXGP main event with features such as:

  • Promoting Sumbawa's Culture
  • Detecting the Nearest UMKM
  • Finding the Nearest Hospital (in case you trip while watching the MXGP ๐Ÿ’€)
  • Finding the Nearest Car Rental (for post-event adventures)
  • ...and more

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Tech Stack

Don't expect fancy stuff like React Native or Kotlinโ€”I hadn't learned those yet ๐Ÿ’€

  • Kodular as the main code editor
  • Firebase for authentication
  • Google Spreadsheet as the database
    (yes, a spreadsheet as a databaseโ€”such a wise choice)

๐Ÿšง What Were the Challenges?

The main challenge wasn't technical, but mental. I had to compete with participants from across the province, including university students using robust tech stacks like Kotlin. It was intimidating at first, but those fears were unfoundedโ€”I managed to hold my own.

๐Ÿ† The Results

The presentation went smoothly. I pitched my idea to the judges, and they liked it. Thankfully, I won first place in the competition

๐Ÿ“š What Did I Learn?

I learned that not everything is about tech stacks; sometimes, it's about how you present your idea and tailor it to the competition's needs. The university students I worried about, despite using advanced technology, struggled with their presentations and concepts. Imagine presenting a job-finding app in a tourism-focused competition ๐Ÿ’€

๐Ÿ™ Special Thanks

Special thanks to Pak Iqbal, my lecturer, who supported and encouraged me throughout the process of making this app.
